Turning Leftover Chocolate into Charity
At MWW, giving back is at the heart of what we do. It’s one of our core values. But we don’t just give back to our growers, partners, and staff, we also support the wider MWW community, too. Thanks to Easter, we found a creative way to turn left over chocolate eggs into a donation for the charity GroceryAid.
After our annual staff Easter egg distribution, we had 80 chocolate eggs left over. And of course, we’d never let good chocolate go to waste — at worst, they’d have happily found new homes among the team! But instead, we turned them into something even more meaningful: a fundraiser for a cause close to our industry.
Supporting GroceryAid
We decided to organise a charity tombola and offer the eggs as prizes, while raising much needed funds for GroceryAid. The charity provides free and confidential financial, emotional, and practical support to our grocery and fresh produce colleagues across the UK.
But it wasn't just sweet treats. As part of our fundraising efforts, we also hosted a book sale featuring a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books donated by staff. It was a fantastic way for colleagues to give their well-read paperbacks a second life while finding new books to read.
The MWW Community Spirit in Action
The response from the team was brilliant. Our colleagues dug deep into their pockets and helped us to raise a fantastic £205.12 for the charity. For us, this was more than just a fundraiser, it was a moment of community spirit, enabling us to support those who keep the grocery sector moving.
Every penny we raised will go directly to GroceryAid, helping to ensure that colleagues across the industry have access to vital financial and emotional support when they need it most.
Thank You to Everyone Who Took Part
We are incredibly proud of our team for their generosity and enthusiasm. We would also like to say a big thank you to everyone in the team who donated, bought a book, or took part in the tombola.
We believe that supporting not only our MWW colleagues and their families, but the wider grocery and fresh produce community makes our industry stronger. It is small actions like these that allow us to make an enormous difference both at home and abroad.
