From Seed to Sweetness: The Story of UK-Grown Sugarsnap Peas

In the heart of the British countryside, a quiet revolution in taste and tenacity unfolds every spring. The sugarsnap pea — crisp, juicy, and naturally sweet — takes centre stage in a story of skilled hands, rich soil, and unwavering commitment to sustainable British farming.

Drilling

The 2025 season began with precision. At the end of March, millions of seeds were sown in carefully staggered plantings, using state-of-the-art drills that placed each seed and its first nutrients with exacting care. This method, paired with decades of agronomic know-how, gave the sugarsnap plants the best possible start — nourished from the very first moment.

Post Drilling

Three weeks later, tender green shoots began to emerge. But with a notably dry spring this year, success depended on swift and skilled action. Our dedicated irrigation teams worked tirelessly to maintain soil moisture, ensuring every plant stayed healthy through each critical stage of development. Their efforts paid off — delivering strong, vibrant crops ready to capture the best of British sunshine.

6 Weeks After Drilling

By week six, the plants reached 30cm tall, basking in the light and beginning to flower. Each bloom held the promise of the sweet, crunchy pods to come. A perfectly timed combination of pre-flowering irrigation and foliar feed enriched the plants with vital nutrients — a moment that makes all the difference in flavour and texture.

And then, the harvest. Ten weeks after drilling, the fields were full of life — lush green vines heavy with pods. Expert pickers moved row by row, hand-harvesting the sugarsnaps with care and precision. Crates brimming with freshness were swiftly transported to the packhouse, ensuring maximum flavour and shelf life.

Sugarsnap Picking

The result? A bumper crop, helped by long sunny days and a mild early summer. 2025 has delivered one of the finest sugarsnap seasons in recent memory — and it’s all thanks to a fusion of modern farming and time-honoured care.

Supporting UK agriculture has never been more important. Every pod of sugar snap tells a story — of innovation, resilience, and passion for growing food the right way. From seed to field, from fork to future, our mission is simple: deliver goodness grown close to home, with sustainability and pride at its heart.

Here’s to the sweet rewards of British soil — and to the teams who make it all possible.
