Driving forward: three new trailers join the fleet to strengthen day-to-day operations
When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade – or in our case, you say yes to brand-new chilled trailers.
You might remember that last December was a huge milestone for us when we invested in three new trailers to strengthen our cold-chain capabilities. So, we weren’t planning on expanding our fleet further so soon. But when one of our trailer suppliers had three top-spec trailers from Schmitz Cargobull available immediately after an unexpected cancellation, we couldn’t say no.
Only a few months after our last cold-chain investment, we’re delighted to welcome three new top-spec chilled trailers to our fleet, just in time for spring.
What makes these trailers different?
In their fresh MWW livery, they don’t look out of place amongst our other MWW vehicles, but what makes them different is the capability underneath the logo. Our new trailers help us to protect product quality, ensuring our fruit and veg arrive farm fresh every time.
The new trailers also have a range of functions to make life easier for both MWW and our customers. These include:
-
Dual temperature capability, supporting multi-temperature distribution and tighter control across varied product requirements.
-
Full trailer tracking, which gives us real-time locations and enables our dispatchers to give accurate, up-to-date ETAs for deliveries, increasing customer trust and satisfaction.
-
Automatic brake efficiency testing, which helps us ensure the trailers remain safe and meet compliance rules for UK trucking.
-
Load monitoring, means we can reduce risk by tracking tyre health and reducing the risk of rollovers and accidents.
-
Premium build quality from one of the UK’s top trailer brands, continuing our approach of investing in equipment that’s built for the realities of daily use in British weather.
A familiar partner, a faster-than-expected opportunity
By having great long-term partnerships, we were able to raise the bar for our logistics infrastructure and secure this high-spec equipment at short notice and further boost the capacity of our supply chain.
What it means for our customers (and the cold chain)
In a fast-moving sector such as the fresh produce industry, the cold chain needs to be resilient and reliable. Our new trailers mean we’re able to take one step forward in strengthening our cold-chain consistency, improve service resilience during peak months, increase operational visibility and responsiveness, while maintaining the high professional standards our customers have come to know and expect.
Final word from our yard team
Our team is very happy with our new trailers and there have been lots of Top Gear style discussions – with one or two people asking when we can get the next set (purely for operational reasons, of course). But for us, in real terms, better cold-chain consistency equals stronger service reliability and technology that lets us stay ahead of problems, rather than just reacting to them. That’s how it should be.
