Prioritising Well-Being In The Workplace: MWW’s Annual Flu Jab Clinic
In September we held our annual MWW flu vaccine clinic. We’ve been holding annual flu vaccine clinics for a few years now, but the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted the importance of ensuring our staff remain healthy and protected from flu viruses. This year’s clinic aimed to make it easier than ever for MWW employees to receive the vaccine. Slots were open to all employees across the business, regardless of their role.
Louise Swindale from our HR team did a fantastic job of getting this year’s clinic up and running in partnership with Doctorcall. We offered the flu jab free of charge, and all 50 available slots were quickly filled.
Flu can have serious effects, particularly on vulnerable groups. Public Health England reports an average of 11,000 flu-related deaths and thousands of hospital admissions annually in the UK. Even for healthy adults, flu can cause extended illness, leading to significant time off work. Millions of working days are lost every year due to flu.
At MWW, we’re proud to put the health and well-being of our staff first. Hosting the flu clinic on-site during work hours made it convenient for everyone to take part without the need to take time off or visit a pharmacy.
As one of our employees noted: "It was incredibly convenient to pop in during the day without having to take time off. I wouldn’t have been able to get the vaccine for free otherwise, as I don’t fall into one of the NHS categories. The nurse was really friendly and welcoming, and it didn’t hurt that much!"
Another colleague pointed out the benefits of the flu clinic being on site: "The additional benefit of it happening during work time and on site means I didn’t lose time. The process was quick, painless, and I haven’t had any side effects."
The nurses from Doctorcall praised the clinic for its smooth organisation, highlighting it as one of the most efficient they’ve worked with.
By offering this service, we’re not only helping to keep our team healthy but also playing our part in reducing the spread of flu within the community. It's part of our ongoing commitment to employee well-being and to supporting public health, especially during flu season when preventing illness is crucial for individuals and businesses alike.
