MWW is helping to put food on the table in some of the most deprived communities in London through its work with the food redistribution charity City Harvest.

So far this year, MWW has donated 9.4 tonnes of good-to-eat fresh fruit, vegetables and salad to City Harvest London, which uses surplus produce to deliver free food to more than 350 charities. Beneficiaries include children’s programmes, food banks, refuges for women fleeing domestic violence and families who have escaped war-torn countries. Local groups providing meals for the elderly and isolated are also supported by City Harvest London, which delivers in total more than one million meals a month.

Founded in 2014, City Harvest was founded to address food waste and food poverty in London, becoming the capital’s first food redistribution charity. MWW has been working with the charity since (when), providing enough food for the equivalent of more than 22,000 meals to date.

Sant Mehta from MWW said: “It’s been a really tough few years for families and individuals living on the breadline, and unfortunately with food and energy costs rising quickly, it’s only going to get harder for some of the most vulnerable members of London’s communities. That’s why the work City Harvest London does is so important.

“At MWW, we are proud to be helping put food on the table and ensuring those people living in food poverty are not allowed to go hungry when we have fresh food we can share.”

As well as feeding vulnerable communities, part of City Harvest London’s mission is to reduce food waste, so that nourishing and good food is not wasted from within the food supply chain. This benefits the recipient charities, but also the planet. By diverting produce which would have otherwise have gone to waste to City Harvest London, MWW’s donations have so far prevented 35.6 tonnes of CO2 emissions in 2022.
