At MWW, we are committed to fostering a supportive workplace that prioritises mental health. During this Mental Health Awareness Week, we are proud to highlight the experiences of Louise Swindale, one of our dedicated HR Advisors, as she joined our team at Top Barn Produce for a Mental Health First Aid Champions Course.
Culture
Empowering our employees through education and raising awareness of mental health is a cornerstone of our approach. Louise's participation in the course underscored the importance of addressing stigma and making mental health conversations as common as those about physical health.
"The Mental Health First Aid Champions Course provided me with invaluable insights into creating an open and supportive workplace culture," Louise shared. "It's crucial that we normalize mental health discussions so everyone feels comfortable seeking help when needed."
Leadership
Building awareness and capability in mental health support within our leadership team is essential. The course encouraged our leaders to be role models, demonstrating the importance of mental health awareness and providing support to our colleagues.
Louise explained, "The course equipped me with the tools and knowledge to support our teams effectively. By leading by example, we can create an environment where mental health is a priority."
Prevention
Prevention is a key aspect of our approach. At MWW, we provide access to self-help tools and expert information for individuals and teams, promoting lifelong learning opportunities. The Mental Health First Aid Champions Course reinforced the importance of these resources in helping us manage our mental well-being proactively.
"Prevention is essential," Louise said. "The course highlighted how crucial it is to have access to self-help tools and expert information. These resources empower us to take control of our mental health."
Support
We are committed to establishing a strong foundation of support, offering anytime, anywhere access to expert mental health resources. Encouraging open mental health conversations among peers is vital, and the course emphasised the need for a supportive network within the workplace.
"Having a supportive network is vital," Louise remarked. "The course taught us the importance of peer support and how we can foster a culture of openness and understanding."
At MWW, we promote a positive environment that supports our employees' physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being. By empowering our employees to be the best versions of themselves, we help them thrive, which in turn helps our business succeed. Our Wellbeing Framework is at the heart of our operations, guiding everything we do to support our employees' health and happiness.
Participating in the Mental Health First Aid Champions Course was a transformative experience for Louise. It reinforced the importance of our comprehensive approach to mental health at MWW and provided practical tools to support our colleagues effectively.
"I am really proud to be part of an organisation that invests in mental health and is committed to creating a supportive workplace for all," Louise concluded. "Together, we can create a thriving workplace where mental health is prioritised, and everyone has the opportunity to fulfill their individual purpose."
By continuing to focus on culture, leadership, prevention, and support, we ensure that MWW remains a place where everyone feels valued and empowered. Together, we can create a thriving workplace where mental health is prioritised, and everyone has the opportunity to fulfill their individual purpose.
